Twenty Four teams from 11 districts in Maharashtra will be seen in action at the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Shield State Level Invitational Football Tournament which will get underway February 27th to March 6th at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Educational complex ground at Dhankawadi
Speaking to newspersons Mr. Vishwajeet Kadam, Vice President of Western India Football Association (WIFA) and President of the Poona District Football Association (PDFA) , said that it will be a first ever tournament of this nature to be played in the city. The event will witness 13 teams from Pune along with 11 teams drawn from various districts in Maharashtra.

The tournament which is being organized by the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Foundation under the aegis of the WIFA and the PDFA will be played under floodlights.

13) Central Railway (Pune).

Speaking on his vision behind promoting such an event Mr. Kadam said the event will help to promote the game of football in all the smaller areas of the state and provide an opportunity to young and talented football players from district places to come and showcase their talent and be spotted by professional teams which could propel them into football mainstream

Elaborating further Mr. Kadam said the winner team will receive RS 1 lakh as prize money while the runners-up will get Rs 51000 a trophy. The Best goalkeeper and Best players will be given an award of Rs 5000 each.
Apart from the prize the winner and runners-up will qualify and get a direct entry into the Sixth edition of the Abhijit Kadam Memorial All India Football tournament which is scheduled to be held in September / October 2010 after the dates and the events get clearance from the ALL India Football Association

The two teams who will qualify from this event will have an opportunity to contest against six I- league Teams and Two international teams at the Abhijit Kadam Memorial All India Football tournament, Mr. Kadam added.
