Hello everyone, and welcome to The Indian Sportal. It seemed very odd after listening to friends talk about their football tournaments. Oh, I think I should say this, what is soccer for Americans is football for me. And it will always be that. Those who already call it football, congratulations, you are very wise.
Anyways, as I was saying, it was weird that there was a football tournament of IT companies and no web way to know what was happening. Same goes for anything local that happens in the country. Nobody goes beyond Team India; even the Ranji trophy is a mystery to many. So, a brilliant idea by the few who (actually!) bring you this website, I will give a more international outlook to sports in this blog.F
Football has always been my favorite sport and I follow it religiously. And so I have been following the sport with sheer amazement of what unfolded in June. A quiet month, normally, there was too much to read. For one, England managed to stay unbeaten. That was a wonder. Not because they cannot, because they never. With a team made of ample quality, it begs to question the past few years the team has been performing. For once in my life, I shall blame the managers. No argument when I say that Capello has been a messiah for the English and the performance has been first-rate.
Speaking of first rate performances, the U.S. made their way to the final of a major cup. And at a sport the world plays. That is just incredible. Beating the top team in the world and then capitulating the way they did against Brazil is unreal. A Brazilian team that looked like they lacked everything, even having the ever inspirational Kaká, made a second half turnaround many will talk about for some time. I give credit to the U.S. for making a great effort and reaching the final, but the whole tournament will now be based on their poor performance in the final 45 minutes. Still, they did manage to move up 3 places to 12 in the world. And Brazil went top. How did England lose a place without losing a game?
We can talk about these matches for some time, but what the actual talking point for the month of June was the extravagance that Real Madrid has shown. They broke the transfer record (which they held by the way) not once, but twice. Twice! Is the Bernabéu made of money or something? They splash a lot of money to bring in Kaká, fine I say, they needed someone like him in the middle with the holes they have been digging themselves into for the past few seasons. Kaká, by the way, agreed to the transfer only because Milan needed the money. There’s a Good Samaritan if anyone saw one. Anyways, Kaká wasn’t enough, so they splashed more cash and brought in Ronaldo. Now, after courting the guy for 2 years, it was only a matter of time that he would have gone. But then there were signs. Like the way he spoke near the end of the season about not knowing what will happen. And then there was the rivalry he was trying to ignite with the Barcelona player during the Champions League final, a requirement for Real Madrid players, I guess.
Looking back at the month of June, it seemed crazy, but I am sure crazier things will happen soon. It’s the law of the game. There’s always the “Manchester City wants Eto’o” issue. £250,000 a week! Holy shit.
