Sahara India Pariwar, a long-term sponsor of Indian cricket and hockey, has added archery to the sports it backs in the country. The company, which is spending US$1 million to support boxing and wrestling in the country over the next four years, will offer incentives to India's top ten archers each year and be title sponsor of the Senior National Archery Championship for the next four years.
A press release said, Sahara will pay incentives to the top 10 archers of the country each year on the basis of their performance and the most consistent performer and promising archers would be selected annually in consultation with Archery Association of India (AAI).
“To excel at international arena, sports and sportsmen require our support, encouragement and emotional backing. Our support to archery is an effort in this direction,” Subrata Roy Sahara, managing worker and chairman, Sahara India Pariwar said.
“Archery has rich cultural roots and as a skill sport has great potential in India. I feel India has an edge to excel in skill sports at International arenas and bring glory to our motherland,” he added.
AAI has also appreciated Sahara's effort to help the sport.
