Unfortunately as things stand in India and Maharashtra , Field Hockey is played between Administrators and Office bearers of the game rather than or more than genuine hockey players. Indian Hockey has been plagued by a sluggish system which runs from top to bottom and has often threatened to uproot the game from the masses. But the Game of Hockey refuses to bow down before such impotent bureaucrats and has time and again risen up from ashes due the love and immense popularity that the game enjoys from its followers. From the many suburbial pockets of Pune like that of Khadki and across Schools in the CAMP area , Hockey is still played with passion. All is not bad with respect to hockey. Approximately 30 odd tournaments from Junior to Senior level are held across Pune in a calendar year. The Hockey grounds in Pune can boast of artificial surfaces at Balewadi and Pimpri. The National Indian Team camp is regularly held in Pune. The AFK pitch is now completed demarcated only for Hockey. A ray of hope still remains. We have a huge number of dedicated followers from yester years. The new generation has now been exposed to a an organized form of National League in terms of the World Series Hockey. There are good admins and coaches across the city. Hockey can and will only grow from this level though the current picture looks gloomy. Probably its time to show the stick !
